Approx. 52 road miles from the yard, around 87 minutes.

Wellfleet is approx. 52 road miles northeast of the yard, around 87 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call earlier in the day and we can often deliver within hours. Wellfleet runs its own dumpster permit through the Fire Department: “Dumpster Permits are required for rubbish containers, which are emptied by mechanical assistance, of six cubic yards or more in the aggregate of compacted or uncompacted combustible rubbish. No permit is required for containers which are delivered to a location and removed in the course of a single business day.” In the street, building material and anything that obstructs or encumbers a street need the Selectboard's written permission (General Bylaws §§ 204-2, 204-3).

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Wellfleet

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Fire Department dumpster permit — for rubbish containers of six cubic yards or more, applied for through the Town's online permit portal; same-business-day containers are exempt.
  • Selectboard permit for the street — building material in a street, or digging up, obstructing or encumbering one, needs the Selectboard's written permission (§§ 204-2, 204-3A), with barriers kept around any obstruction (§ 204-3B).
  • Street fines — $100 for a first offense and $200 after that (§ 204-18), enforced by the Police.
  • Transfer station — 370 Coles Neck Road; construction waste with a Wellfleet sticker, after gate inspection, with lumber cut into 6-foot lengths; no asbestos (Board of Health Regulations § 1004.1).
  • No contractor brush — brush isn't accepted from landscapers, builders or commercial entities (§ 1001.13a).
  • Demolition delay — up to 18 months for buildings found preferably preserved (Ch. 156).

What comes out of Wellfleet properties

Kitchen remodels in 10s or 15s, roofing jobs in 15s and 20s, renovations and whole-house clean-outs in 20s, and new construction or demolition in 30s and 40s. Builders and landscapers can't drop brush at the Town station, so lot and landscape clean-ups need a yard-waste container of their own. Leaving a 10 or bigger overnight means the Fire Department's permit.

What goes in: household junk and furniture, construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding, and roofing shingles — plus concrete, brick or asphalt in approved limited quantities, talked through before delivery so the load stays inside weight limits. Brush, branches and yard waste go in a yard-waste container of their own. What doesn't go in: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals — that's our own list. Massachusetts adds its own: MassDEP's waste bans (310 CMR 19.017) cover asphalt pavement, brick and concrete, metal, wood (from landfills), clean drywall, mattresses and textiles (since 1 November 2022), whole tires, large appliances, TV and monitor picture tubes, lead-acid batteries, leaves and yard waste, and recyclable paper, cardboard and containers, so mixed construction loads go to a C&D handling facility that meets MassDEP's minimum performance standard. Tell us before you load a mattress or an appliance. The state fire code also keeps oily rags and hot coals, cinders and hot scrap metal out of containers (527 CMR 1.00, 19.3.1). Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Massachusetts guide covers the rest. Leftover oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals and automotive fluids go to Barnstable County's household hazardous waste collections, which run from April through October (capecod.gov); off-season, the County points residents to MassDEP's list of permanent facilities.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Wellfleet

Who may haul: In Massachusetts no one may haul refuse through a town's streets without a permit from that town's Board of Health (M.G.L. c.111 § 31A), and the permits run to the end of the calendar year. Wellfleet's Board of Health regulations refer to commercial refuse haulers licensed by the Wellfleet Board, with a commercial transfer station sticker for residential waste they bring in (§ 1001.11), and “Trash Hauler” is one of the licence types on the Town's General Business License. We're licensed and insured.

Fire Department permit: Wellfleet's own permit covers rubbish containers emptied by mechanical assistance of six cubic yards or more; containers delivered and removed in a single business day are exempt. The state code behind it, 527 CMR 1.00 Table 1.12.8.5, also wants the company's name and phone number on the container.

In the street: placing stone, brick, timber or other building material in a street needs the Selectboard's written permission (§ 204-2), and the Selectboard may grant a written permit to obstruct or encumber as much of a street as it judges safe (§ 204-3A), with barriers kept around the obstruction (§ 204-3B). Dumpsters aren't named; fines run $100 and then $200 (§ 204-18). Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as the area is accessible and we know where the container goes. Our smaller containers fit easily in most driveways, and we place boards under the container to help prevent damage to the driveway.

Cape Cod National Seashore: the Seashore's compendium lists the use of commercial vehicles on park area roads as an activity that needs a permit, which the superintendent issues to reach private land in or next to the park when there's no other access (36 CFR 5.6(c)). If the only way to your lot is a park road, tell us when you book.

State highways: Nothing may be placed on a MassDOT state highway without MassDOT's written permit (M.G.L. c.81 § 21), and MassDOT has no dumpster or container permit type — so beside one the container goes on private property, never in the highway layout. Not every stretch of a numbered route is state-owned, so we check the exact address.

Covered loads: Massachusetts requires loads of rubbish and debris to be fully and adequately covered on the road (M.G.L. c.85 § 36). Keep debris level with or below the top edge — an overfilled container can't be transported.

Remodel or tear-down: Massachusetts requires an asbestos survey before demolition or renovation work (310 CMR 7.15), and asbestos removal needs a MassDEP notice filed ten working days before work starts by the licensed abatement contractor. MassDEP's construction and demolition notice (AQ 06) does not apply to residential buildings with fewer than 20 units. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if the survey finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Wellfleet

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — in Barnstable, the village — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or run out of room, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, the standard rental period and disposal within the included weight. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top edge and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and automotive fluids, fuel and propane tanks, batteries and electronics, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals, plus what Massachusetts bans from disposal, such as mattresses, appliances and recyclable cardboard. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we schedule a prompt pickup, often within 24 hours. The load is covered for the road and goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities, with metal, concrete, clean wood, cardboard and yard waste recycled whenever possible.

Only with the Selectboard's written permission. Building material or an obstruction in a street needs it (General Bylaws Secs. 204-2 and 204-3), and fines run $100 to $200.
