Roll-off dumpster rental in Barnstable
Approx. 15 road miles from the yard, around 28 minutes.
Barnstable is approx. 15 road miles east-northeast of the yard, around 28 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call earlier in the day and we can often deliver within hours. The Town of Barnstable is the largest town on the Cape, with 48,916 people at the 2020 Census, and it is made up of villages — Hyannis, Osterville, Centerville, Cotuit, Marstons Mills, Barnstable village and West Barnstable among them.
One set of Town rules covers all of them. Anyone collecting or transporting garbage or refuse generated in Barnstable for pay needs a Board of Health waste collection permit (General Ordinances § 202-1), and the Transfer Station on Flint St in Marstons Mills takes construction and demolition debris only in vehicles no larger than 5 cubic yards — and no asphalt, concrete, brick or asbestos. A remodel, a roof or a clean-out is roll-off work.

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Barnstable
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Annual hauler permit — the Board of Health's hauler permit expires 31 December each year, truck inspections are required for new vehicles, and the permit goes on the truck's visor (OpenGov permit text; Board of Health Reg. § 373-1B(4)).
- Recycling offered — every Board of Health hauler licence carries a condition to offer customers recycling at reasonable cost (§ 202-6).
- Several fire services — Barnstable is served by the Barnstable Fire Department, the Barnstable Fire District, the COMM (Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills) Fire District, the Cotuit Fire District, the Hyannis Fire Department and the West Barnstable Fire Department.
- Transfer Station — 45 Flint St, Marstons Mills, open 7 days, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; construction and demolition material $285 a ton and mixed loads $385 a ton (fees effective 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027), in vehicles no larger than 5 cubic yards.
- Setback from the neighbors — Board of Health rules keep stored rubbish at least 10 feet from an abutter's property line (§ 353-4).
- Nothing left in the street — no rubbish, boards with projecting nails or refuse of any kind may be left in a street (§ 206-1).
What comes out of Barnstable properties
Garage clean-outs and yard debris in 10s (about 3 pickup loads), flooring and medium remodels in 15s, roofing jobs and renovations in 20s, large clean-outs and construction in 30s, and demolition and commercial jobs in 40s. The Transfer Station's 5-cubic-yard cap and its ban on asphalt, concrete and brick make a roll-off the practical way to move a full remodel. Heavy material — concrete, brick, roofing — should be talked through before delivery to stay inside weight limits.
What goes in: household junk and furniture, construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding, and roofing shingles — plus concrete, brick or asphalt in approved limited quantities, talked through before delivery so the load stays inside weight limits. Brush, branches and yard waste go in a yard-waste container of their own. What doesn't go in: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals — that's our own list. Massachusetts adds its own: MassDEP's waste bans (310 CMR 19.017) cover asphalt pavement, brick and concrete, metal, wood (from landfills), clean drywall, mattresses and textiles (since 1 November 2022), whole tires, large appliances, TV and monitor picture tubes, lead-acid batteries, leaves and yard waste, and recyclable paper, cardboard and containers, so mixed construction loads go to a C&D handling facility that meets MassDEP's minimum performance standard. Tell us before you load a mattress or an appliance. The state fire code also keeps oily rags and hot coals, cinders and hot scrap metal out of containers (527 CMR 1.00, 19.3.1). Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Massachusetts guide covers the rest. Leftover oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals and automotive fluids go to Barnstable County's household hazardous waste collections, which run from April through October (capecod.gov); off-season, the County points residents to MassDEP's list of permanent facilities.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Barnstable
Who may haul: In Massachusetts no one may haul refuse through a town's streets without a permit from that town's Board of Health (M.G.L. c.111 § 31A), and the permits run to the end of the calendar year. On top of that, the Town of Barnstable requires a Board of Health waste collection permit for anyone who collects or transports garbage or refuse generated in the Town for pay, from homes or businesses (General Ordinances § 202-1), with fines up to $300 a violation (§ 202-5). The permit is annual and expires 31 December, new vehicles are inspected, the vehicle permit goes on the truck's visor (Board of Health Reg. § 373-1B(4)), and permit holders offer customers recycling (§ 202-6). We found no Town roll-off franchise. We're licensed and insured.
Fire-district permit: Massachusetts' fire code requires a permit from the head of the local fire department for a rubbish container over 6 cubic yards (527 CMR 1.00, Table 1.12.8.5); a container delivered and removed in the same business day needs none (1.12.8.5.1), and every container must be marked with the name and phone number of the company that can be reached in an emergency (1.12.8.5.2). In Barnstable the permit comes from the fire department or district that covers the job — Hyannis, COMM for Centerville, Osterville and Marstons Mills, Cotuit, Barnstable or West Barnstable.
In the street: we found no Barnstable ordinance or permit for a container in a public way, and none of the Town's online permit types is a dumpster or street-occupancy permit. Rubbish, boards with projecting nails and refuse of any kind may not be left in a street (§ 206-1). Driveway first. The Town's excavation regulation needs a permit for construction or installation work within a Town road layout (Ch. 404), but it doesn't mention containers. You don't need to be home as long as the area is accessible and we know where the container goes. Our smaller containers fit easily in most driveways, and we place boards under the container to help prevent damage to the driveway.
On your property: Barnstable's Board of Health keeps stored rubbish at least 10 feet from an abutter's property line, or as far as the lot allows (§ 353-4), and outdoor rubbish areas at commercial, lodging and multifamily properties are screened from the neighbors' view (§ 353-5). The rules are written for ongoing trash storage, but we place the container with them in mind.
State highways: Route 28 (Falmouth Rd, Iyannough Rd and the Airport Rotary) and the Mid-Cape Highway (Route 6) are MassDOT's all the way through Barnstable, and Route 6A is mostly MassDOT's; Routes 149 and 130 are mostly town-accepted. Nothing may be placed on a MassDOT state highway without MassDOT's written permit (M.G.L. c.81 § 21), and MassDOT has no dumpster or container permit type — so beside one the container goes on private property, never in the highway layout. Not every stretch of a numbered route is state-owned, so we check the exact address.
Covered loads: Barnstable's Board of Health wants every load entering the Town facility covered (§ 373-5A). Massachusetts requires loads of rubbish and debris to be fully and adequately covered on the road (M.G.L. c.85 § 36). Keep debris level with or below the top edge — an overfilled container can't be transported.
Remodel or tear-down: Massachusetts requires an asbestos survey before demolition or renovation work (310 CMR 7.15), and asbestos removal needs a MassDEP notice filed ten working days before work starts by the licensed abatement contractor. MassDEP's construction and demolition notice (AQ 06) does not apply to residential buildings with fewer than 20 units. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if the survey finds any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Barnstable
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — in Barnstable, the village — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or run out of room, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, the standard rental period and disposal within the included weight. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep it level with or below the top edge and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and automotive fluids, fuel and propane tanks, batteries and electronics, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals, plus what Massachusetts bans from disposal, such as mattresses, appliances and recyclable cardboard. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal
Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we schedule a prompt pickup, often within 24 hours. The load is covered for the road and goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities, with metal, concrete, clean wood, cardboard and yard waste recycled whenever possible.

Local answers
Dumpster rental in Barnstable — common questions
How fast can you deliver in Barnstable?
Same-day or next-day when availability allows — the town is about 28 minutes from the yard, and Cotuit about 19. Call (508) 388-1861 earlier in the day for the best chance of same-day.
Which fire department issues a dumpster permit in Barnstable?
The one covering your job. Barnstable is served by several fire departments and districts — Hyannis, COMM (Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills), Cotuit, Barnstable and West Barnstable. Under the state fire code (527 CMR 1.00) a container over 6 cubic yards that stays past the day it arrives needs a permit from the head of that department.
Can I take construction debris to the Barnstable Transfer Station?
Only in vehicles no larger than 5 cubic yards, and only from structures in the Town of Barnstable. It doesn't take asphalt, concrete, brick or anything containing asbestos.
Do I need a permit to put a dumpster in a Barnstable street?
We found no Town dumpster or street-occupancy permit, and none among the Town's online permit types. Rubbish and refuse may not be left in a street (Sec. 206-1). Keep the container on your property, at least 10 feet from the neighbor's line where you can.
