Roll-off dumpster rental in Truro

Approx. 59 road miles from the yard, around 97 minutes.

Truro is approx. 59 road miles northeast of the yard, around 97 minutes — same-day or next-day when availability allows, once the Town's rules for the job are checked. It is a town of 2,454 at the 2020 Census, with Truro Center and North Truro Center as its activity centers and Pond Village, Pamet and Beach Point among its older place names.

Truro writes more about dumpsters than most Cape towns, so we check the Town's rules before booking. The Board of Health requires refuse haulers to hold both its own permit and an Annual Commercial Refuse permit from the DPW (Regulations Sec. V Art. 6), though its definition of refuse excludes building demolition debris. Its nuisance regulation names roll-offs and treats an open or overflowing dumpster that attracts vermin as a nuisance (Sec. XIV). And the Truro Recycling Center takes no demolition materials, new construction or remodeling waste — a remodel or tear-down here leaves in a roll-off.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Truro

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Two hauler permits — refuse haulers need a Board of Health permit and an Annual Commercial Refuse permit from the DPW, and carry the Board's permit in the vehicle (Sec. V Art. 6).
  • Roll-offs named — the Board's nuisance regulation defines a dumpster to include a roll-off used for refuse or demolition debris, and an open or overflowing one that attracts vermin is a nuisance, abated within 24 hours (Sec. XIV).
  • Town way permit — rubbish or building materials on a town way during building work need a Building Commissioner permit, good for at most 90 days and lit from sunset to sunrise (General Bylaws § 1-9-12).
  • No C&D at the Recycling Center — 1 Truro Dump Road (off Route 6) takes no demolition materials, new construction or remodeling waste, and no asbestos (Sec. V Art. 4).
  • Truro waste only — all waste brought to the transfer station must originate in Truro (Sec. V Art. 6, item 9).
  • Demolition delay — the Historical Commission may delay demolition of a historic building by up to twelve months (§ 6-4-1-7).

What comes out of Truro properties

Kitchen remodels in 10s or 15s, roofing jobs in 15s and 20s, renovations and whole-house clean-outs in 20s, and new construction or demolition in 30s and 40s. With no construction debris accepted at the Recycling Center at all, every remodel needs a container — and the Board of Health wants it kept closed, never overflowing, so book a swap before it's heaped.

What goes in: household junk and furniture, construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding, and roofing shingles — plus concrete, brick or asphalt in approved limited quantities, talked through before delivery so the load stays inside weight limits. Brush, branches and yard waste go in a yard-waste container of their own. What doesn't go in: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals — that's our own list. Massachusetts adds its own: MassDEP's waste bans (310 CMR 19.017) cover asphalt pavement, brick and concrete, metal, wood (from landfills), clean drywall, mattresses and textiles (since 1 November 2022), whole tires, large appliances, TV and monitor picture tubes, lead-acid batteries, leaves and yard waste, and recyclable paper, cardboard and containers, so mixed construction loads go to a C&D handling facility that meets MassDEP's minimum performance standard. Tell us before you load a mattress or an appliance. The state fire code also keeps oily rags and hot coals, cinders and hot scrap metal out of containers (527 CMR 1.00, 19.3.1). Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Massachusetts guide covers the rest. Leftover oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals and automotive fluids go to Barnstable County's household hazardous waste collections, which run from April through October (capecod.gov); off-season, the County points residents to MassDEP's list of permanent facilities.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Truro

Who may haul — we check first: In Massachusetts no one may haul refuse through a town's streets without a permit from that town's Board of Health (M.G.L. c.111 § 31A), and the permits run to the end of the calendar year. Truro's Board of Health says “Refuse haulers as defined herein must obtain a refuse haulers permit from the Truro Board of Health AND an Annual Commercial Refuse permit from the Department of Public Works,” vehicles carry the permit, have impervious floor and side liners, and “All loads shall be properly secured and covered,” and waste brought to the Truro Transfer Station must originate in Truro (Sec. V Art. 6). The same section defines refuse as excluding building demolition debris. We check the Town's rules before booking a container in Truro. We're licensed and insured.

On a town way: anyone building, repairing or taking down a building who wants to use part of a town way for building materials or rubbish gives notice to the Building Commissioner, who may grant a permit “in no case to be in force longer than ninety days,” on condition that lighting is placed “from sunset in the evening until sunrise in the morning” (General Bylaws § 1-9-12). Obstructing a street otherwise needs a written Selectmen's permit (§ 1-9-1). Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as the area is accessible and we know where the container goes. Our smaller containers fit easily in most driveways, and we place boards under the container to help prevent damage to the driveway.

Keep it closed: the Board's nuisance regulation counts “A dumpster or disposal container to be left open or to overflow as to attract vermin” as a nuisance, and the Board may order it abated within twenty-four hours (Sec. XIV).

Fire-code permit: Massachusetts' fire code requires a permit from the head of the local fire department for a rubbish container over 6 cubic yards (527 CMR 1.00, Table 1.12.8.5); a container delivered and removed in the same business day needs none (1.12.8.5.1), and every container must be marked with the name and phone number of the company that can be reached in an emergency (1.12.8.5.2).

Cape Cod National Seashore: the Seashore's compendium lists the use of commercial vehicles on park area roads as an activity that needs a permit, which the superintendent issues to reach private land in or next to the park when there's no other access (36 CFR 5.6(c)). If the only way to your lot is a park road, tell us when you book.

State highways: Nothing may be placed on a MassDOT state highway without MassDOT's written permit (M.G.L. c.81 § 21), and MassDOT has no dumpster or container permit type — so beside one the container goes on private property, never in the highway layout. Not every stretch of a numbered route is state-owned, so we check the exact address.

Covered loads: Massachusetts requires loads of rubbish and debris to be fully and adequately covered on the road (M.G.L. c.85 § 36). Keep debris level with or below the top edge — an overfilled container can't be transported.

Remodel or tear-down: Massachusetts requires an asbestos survey before demolition or renovation work (310 CMR 7.15), and asbestos removal needs a MassDEP notice filed ten working days before work starts by the licensed abatement contractor. MassDEP's construction and demolition notice (AQ 06) does not apply to residential buildings with fewer than 20 units. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if the survey finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Truro

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — in Barnstable, the village — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or run out of room, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, the standard rental period and disposal within the included weight. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top edge and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and automotive fluids, fuel and propane tanks, batteries and electronics, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals, plus what Massachusetts bans from disposal, such as mattresses, appliances and recyclable cardboard. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we schedule a prompt pickup, often within 24 hours. The load is covered for the road and goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities, with metal, concrete, clean wood, cardboard and yard waste recycled whenever possible.

Local answers

Dumpster rental in Truro — common questions

Can I get a roll-off in Truro?

Yes — we check the Town's rules before booking a container in Truro, because Truro's Board of Health, Building Commissioner and DPW all have rules that can touch a roll-off. Call (508) 388-1861 with the address and the job.

Can a dumpster go on a Truro road?

Only with a Building Commissioner permit during building work, good for at most 90 days and lit from sunset to sunrise (General Bylaws Sec. 1-9-12). On your own driveway it stays off the road.

Will the Truro transfer station take my remodel debris?

No. The Truro Recycling Center takes no demolition materials, new construction or remodeling waste, and no asbestos.

Does my dumpster need to be covered in Truro?

Truro's Board of Health counts an open or overflowing dumpster that attracts vermin as a nuisance (Sec. XIV). Keep it covered and book the swap before it's overfull.
