Roll-off dumpster rental in Harwich
Approx. 33 road miles from the yard, around 53 minutes.
Harwich is approx. 33 road miles east-northeast of the yard, around 53 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call earlier in the day and we can often deliver within hours. It is a town of 13,440 at the 2020 Census, with Town Hall in Harwich Center and villages including Harwich Port, West Harwich and East Harwich.
Harwich has a street rule that reaches private ways too: no one may obstruct or excavate any public or private way — private driveways excepted — without a licence granted on written application by the Director of Highways and Maintenance (Town Code § 255-1). A driveway drop needs nothing from the Highway Department. Haulers need a Board of Health licence (§ 164-2), and the transfer station at 209 Queen Anne Road takes construction debris on a concrete pad, by the ton.

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Harwich
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Driveways excepted — obstructing any public or private way needs a written licence from the Director of Highways and Maintenance, who may ask for an indemnity bond (§ 255-1).
- The road layout is wide — the Town's snow policy says the right of way is often 50 feet wide, reaching 10 to 20 feet either side of the road, and anything placed in the layout is there at the owner's risk.
- Transfer station — 209 Queen Anne Road, open 7 days, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; it takes household waste from residents and commercial haulers.
- Construction debris pad — wood waste from building and remodeling, shingles, unusable furniture and mattresses go on a concrete pad south of the transfer station, $205 a ton (effective 1 January 2024).
- Quiet at night — loading or unloading plainly audible at 150 feet counts as disturbing noise between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. (§ 189-1D).
- Historic review — work in the Harwich Center Historic District needs Historic District Commission approval, and demolishing a building 100 years or older starts with a notice to the Historical Commission; the maximum delay is now 18 months (2025 Town Meeting, Article 55).
What comes out of Harwich properties
Kitchen remodels in 10s or 15s, roofing jobs in 15s and 20s, renovations and whole-house clean-outs in 20s (about 6 pickup loads), large clean-outs in 30s, and demolition or new construction in 30s and 40s. Shingles, remodeling wood and old furniture are exactly what the Town's pad takes by the ton — a roll-off moves the whole job at once. Planning to take down a building 100 years or older? File with the Historical Commission before you book the 40.
What goes in: household junk and furniture, construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding, and roofing shingles — plus concrete, brick or asphalt in approved limited quantities, talked through before delivery so the load stays inside weight limits. Brush, branches and yard waste go in a yard-waste container of their own. What doesn't go in: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals — that's our own list. Massachusetts adds its own: MassDEP's waste bans (310 CMR 19.017) cover asphalt pavement, brick and concrete, metal, wood (from landfills), clean drywall, mattresses and textiles (since 1 November 2022), whole tires, large appliances, TV and monitor picture tubes, lead-acid batteries, leaves and yard waste, and recyclable paper, cardboard and containers, so mixed construction loads go to a C&D handling facility that meets MassDEP's minimum performance standard. Tell us before you load a mattress or an appliance. The state fire code also keeps oily rags and hot coals, cinders and hot scrap metal out of containers (527 CMR 1.00, 19.3.1). Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Massachusetts guide covers the rest. Leftover oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals and automotive fluids go to Barnstable County's household hazardous waste collections, which run from April through October (capecod.gov); off-season, the County points residents to MassDEP's list of permanent facilities.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Harwich
Who may haul: In Massachusetts no one may haul refuse through a town's streets without a permit from that town's Board of Health (M.G.L. c.111 § 31A), and the permits run to the end of the calendar year. Harwich's bylaw bars collecting garbage, rubbish or offal without a licence from the Board of Health (§ 164-2), applied for through the Town's online permit portal, with a $100 fine for violations (§ 164-6). We found no Board dumpster regulation. We're licensed and insured.
In the street — Harwich has a rule: obstructing or excavating any public or private way, private driveways excepted, needs a licence first, granted on written application by the Director of Highways and Maintenance, who may require an indemnity bond; the licensee repairs any damage (§ 255-1). Containers aren't named and we found no fee. Your driveway is the exception, so that's where the container goes. You don't need to be home as long as the area is accessible and we know where the container goes. Our smaller containers fit easily in most driveways, and we place boards under the container to help prevent damage to the driveway.
Night work: Harwich's noise bylaw counts loading or unloading plainly audible at 150 feet between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. as disturbing, with fines of $150 and then $300 (§ 189-1D); our drop-offs and pickups stay out of those hours.
Fire-code permit: Massachusetts' fire code requires a permit from the head of the local fire department for a rubbish container over 6 cubic yards (527 CMR 1.00, Table 1.12.8.5); a container delivered and removed in the same business day needs none (1.12.8.5.1), and every container must be marked with the name and phone number of the company that can be reached in an emergency (1.12.8.5.2).
State highways: Nothing may be placed on a MassDOT state highway without MassDOT's written permit (M.G.L. c.81 § 21), and MassDOT has no dumpster or container permit type — so beside one the container goes on private property, never in the highway layout. Not every stretch of a numbered route is state-owned, so we check the exact address.
Covered loads: Massachusetts requires loads of rubbish and debris to be fully and adequately covered on the road (M.G.L. c.85 § 36). Keep debris level with or below the top edge — an overfilled container can't be transported.
Remodel or tear-down: Massachusetts requires an asbestos survey before demolition or renovation work (310 CMR 7.15), and asbestos removal needs a MassDEP notice filed ten working days before work starts by the licensed abatement contractor. MassDEP's construction and demolition notice (AQ 06) does not apply to residential buildings with fewer than 20 units. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if the survey finds any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Harwich
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — in Barnstable, the village — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or run out of room, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, the standard rental period and disposal within the included weight. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep it level with or below the top edge and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and automotive fluids, fuel and propane tanks, batteries and electronics, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals, plus what Massachusetts bans from disposal, such as mattresses, appliances and recyclable cardboard. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal
Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we schedule a prompt pickup, often within 24 hours. The load is covered for the road and goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities, with metal, concrete, clean wood, cardboard and yard waste recycled whenever possible.

Local answers
Dumpster rental in Harwich — common questions
Is Harwich same-day?
Same-day or next-day when availability allows — it is about 53 minutes from the yard. Call (508) 388-1861 earlier in the day for the best chance.
Do I need a licence to put a dumpster in a Harwich street?
Yes. Obstructing any public or private way needs a written licence from the Director of Highways and Maintenance, who may ask for a bond (Town Code Sec. 255-1).
Is my Harwich driveway exempt?
Yes. The Harwich street rule excepts private driveways, so a container on your own driveway needs no licence from the Highway Department. Plan for the fire-code permit if it stays overnight.
Where does construction debris go in Harwich?
The transfer station at 209 Queen Anne Road takes it on a concrete pad south of the station, by the ton. A roll-off moves the whole job in one go.
