Roll-off dumpster rental in Orleans

Approx. 41 road miles from the yard, around 65 minutes.

Orleans is approx. 41 road miles east-northeast of the yard, around 65 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call earlier in the day and we can often deliver within hours. It is a town of 6,307 at the 2020 Census, with East Orleans and South Orleans named in Town documents.

Orleans rewrote the bylaw on its solid waste facility in 2025 (Ch. 185 Art. II, amended in its entirety 17 April 2025). Refuse haulers need a Board of Health Refuse Collection and Transportation Permit, and their vehicles must cover their loads, carry a fire extinguisher and display their volume capacity and empty weight (§§ 185-13B3, 185-13B4). At the transfer station on Lots Hollow Road, construction and demolition materials from vehicles of one ton or more are prohibited (§ 185-16A); smaller contractors on an Orleans building site use a 30-day pass with proof of an active building permit.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Orleans

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • One-ton limit — the transfer station prohibits construction and demolition materials from vehicles with a capacity of one ton or more (§ 185-16A), with fines from $50 to $250.
  • Thirty-day pass — out-of-town contractors' vehicles can get a 30-day pass for construction and demolition material from an Orleans building site, with proof of an active building permit.
  • Transfer station — 56 Lots Hollow Road, open Friday to Tuesday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed Wednesdays and Thursdays.
  • Hauler vehicles — rigid, lined hauling bodies, covered loads, a fire extinguisher on board, and capacity and empty weight displayed (§ 185-13B4).
  • Construction noise — equipment used in normal home or commercial repair, renovation, construction or demolition is exempt from the noise bylaw (§ 120-2F).
  • Historic review — Orleans takes Old King's Highway Historic District Committee applications and has a demolition-of-historical-structure bylaw (Ch. 106).

What comes out of Orleans properties

Kitchen remodels in 10s or 15s, roofing jobs in 15s and 20s, renovations and whole-house clean-outs in 20s, large clean-outs and construction in 30s, and demolition in 40s. With the transfer station closed to construction debris from any truck of one ton or more, a roll-off is the way a real remodel leaves an Orleans site. Concrete, brick and roofing get talked through before delivery for weight.

What goes in: household junk and furniture, construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding, and roofing shingles — plus concrete, brick or asphalt in approved limited quantities, talked through before delivery so the load stays inside weight limits. Brush, branches and yard waste go in a yard-waste container of their own. What doesn't go in: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals — that's our own list. Massachusetts adds its own: MassDEP's waste bans (310 CMR 19.017) cover asphalt pavement, brick and concrete, metal, wood (from landfills), clean drywall, mattresses and textiles (since 1 November 2022), whole tires, large appliances, TV and monitor picture tubes, lead-acid batteries, leaves and yard waste, and recyclable paper, cardboard and containers, so mixed construction loads go to a C&D handling facility that meets MassDEP's minimum performance standard. Tell us before you load a mattress or an appliance. The state fire code also keeps oily rags and hot coals, cinders and hot scrap metal out of containers (527 CMR 1.00, 19.3.1). Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Massachusetts guide covers the rest. Leftover oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals and automotive fluids go to Barnstable County's household hazardous waste collections, which run from April through October (capecod.gov); off-season, the County points residents to MassDEP's list of permanent facilities.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Orleans

Who may haul: In Massachusetts no one may haul refuse through a town's streets without a permit from that town's Board of Health (M.G.L. c.111 § 31A), and the permits run to the end of the calendar year. Orleans requires a Board of Health Refuse Collection and Transportation Permit for anyone in the business of removing or transporting refuse (§ 185-13B3), applied for through the Town's online permit portal, and its vehicle rules cover rigid lined bodies, covered loads, fire extinguishers and posted capacity and empty weight (§ 185-13B4). We found no Orleans text that names dumpsters or roll-offs. We're licensed and insured.

In the street: we found no Orleans rule for a container in the street. The road-opening chapter (Ch. 87) covers excavation in a public way, and the Select Board's Traffic Regulations (Ch. 179) are on file with the Town Clerk rather than online. The Building Department's Temporary Storage Structure Permit is for storage containers up to 200 square feet on residential properties; we found nothing applying it to roll-offs. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as the area is accessible and we know where the container goes. Our smaller containers fit easily in most driveways, and we place boards under the container to help prevent damage to the driveway.

Fire-code permit: Massachusetts' fire code requires a permit from the head of the local fire department for a rubbish container over 6 cubic yards (527 CMR 1.00, Table 1.12.8.5); a container delivered and removed in the same business day needs none (1.12.8.5.1), and every container must be marked with the name and phone number of the company that can be reached in an emergency (1.12.8.5.2).

State highways: Nothing may be placed on a MassDOT state highway without MassDOT's written permit (M.G.L. c.81 § 21), and MassDOT has no dumpster or container permit type — so beside one the container goes on private property, never in the highway layout. Not every stretch of a numbered route is state-owned, so we check the exact address.

Covered loads: Massachusetts requires loads of rubbish and debris to be fully and adequately covered on the road (M.G.L. c.85 § 36). Keep debris level with or below the top edge — an overfilled container can't be transported.

Remodel or tear-down: Massachusetts requires an asbestos survey before demolition or renovation work (310 CMR 7.15), and asbestos removal needs a MassDEP notice filed ten working days before work starts by the licensed abatement contractor. MassDEP's construction and demolition notice (AQ 06) does not apply to residential buildings with fewer than 20 units. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if the survey finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Orleans

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the town — in Barnstable, the village — what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or run out of room, and you get a clear, flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, the standard rental period and disposal within the included weight. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top edge and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and automotive fluids, fuel and propane tanks, batteries and electronics, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals, plus what Massachusetts bans from disposal, such as mattresses, appliances and recyclable cardboard. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we schedule a prompt pickup, often within 24 hours. The load is covered for the road and goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities, with metal, concrete, clean wood, cardboard and yard waste recycled whenever possible.

Local answers

Dumpster rental in Orleans — common questions

Is Orleans same-day?

Same-day or next-day when availability allows — it is about 65 minutes from the yard. Call (508) 388-1861 earlier in the day for the best chance.

Can contractors dump construction debris at the Orleans transfer station?

Not from a vehicle of one ton or more (Sec. 185-16A). Smaller contractors on an Orleans building site can get a 30-day pass with proof of an active building permit. A roll-off avoids the trips.

Does Orleans require a dumpster permit?

We found no Orleans dumpster or street permit. The state fire code (527 CMR 1.00) needs a fire department permit for a container over 6 cubic yards that stays past the day it arrives.

Is the Orleans Temporary Storage Structure Permit for dumpsters?

It is for storage containers up to 200 square feet on residential properties, valid for 180 days. We found no Orleans source applying it to roll-off dumpsters.
